Sia Hurtigkarl Degel (b. 1992) is a Copenhagen based designer with a practice focused on objects, textiles and large scale installations.
“I perceive design as a medium of translation.
In my practice I translate narratives into material stories, and create objects for discourse and empowerment.
My works revolves around my fascination of human culture and the construction of identity.
With the narrative at the forefront of my practice I seek my inspiration in human culture, rituals and local material matters. My work is often motivated by issues or tendencies in present society.
Moreover, I enjoy working with brand specific designs which communicate brand identity and aim to add more than just beauty to the field of design.
Through my work I experiment with various materials and multiply disciplines. However, textiles will always be essential to my practice and my perception of materials and craftsmanship.
Next to my design practice I am a co-founders of the curatorial collective pro tempore.art. The collective creates exhibition between exhibitions by placing emerging artist into established galleries and art spaces.”
